to the OP (the title, not the song). I hitch hiked 2 times I think. The first time was in first week of orientation in the school campus here. Got completely lost, inspite of holding a map. Asked a FedEx (or UPS) guy to give me a ride to front of the campus. XH, my then bf got furious on how I can just sit in anyone's truck.
Second time was crazier. Was at the train station. Rainy evening around 9 pm. XH was already home, daughter was a newborn at the time. In laws were home too I am forgetting how he got home, as we used to share a car. Maybe he took a cab or came home with a neighbor, *shrug*
Anyway. Reached the parking lot and could not find my keys. Looked all over my backpack, pockets, inside and outside. Concluded that they might have fallen off when we were running up in the morning. (Once my wallet had dropped too, and a kind stranger had found it, called me, and mailed it to me).
All this time, a car was standing by. It was started with headlights on, but didn't leave. Now, I had the choice to walk all way the back to the train station, and get a cab from there. I didn't have a cell phone those days, late 90s. I was too tired and didn't want to walk.
After my 4th attempt at finding the keys, the driver in the car asked me if I needed a ride. And I AGREED. Had a small chat with him on the way back. He actually made a detour from his regular route to drop me. Slipped a 5 in his car, as I was too shy to offer anything on his face.
Came home, and XH was freaked out. First at my being late, and second taking a ride from a creep who was actually waiting there to give me the ride, and lastly to actually pay for a seemingly kind gesture considering I reached home alive. In-laws were speechless as well.
I guess that's about it.
