Caste System in Telangana/Andhra Pradesh Empty Caste System in Telangana/Andhra Pradesh

Post by Guest Wed Apr 20, 2016 2:24 pm

was having an interesting conversation with some people the other day, which led me thinking.

Did the state split affect in any way who all qualifies for OBC/SC/ST castes? Is one caste more or less backward in one state than the other?

What happened to those caste (farmers, warriors, etc) who were TRYING to get their castes get a backward status pre-split? Are they now fighting in both the states post-split?

Among Dalits, there are differences. Telangana has more "Maadigas" and Andhra, "Maalas". In the united AP state, Maalas were politically more active than Maadigas. Consequently, Maalas managed to get a better share of the reservation pie. Maalas in Andhra, in general, are treated better than Maadigas in Telangana by the locals. If a Maadiga doesn't address a Velama (KCR, for example) as a DORA (lord), he may be making a mistake. After Telangana separated, Maadigas started to ask for better treatment but the ruling class is not cooperating. Hopefully, Carvaka dora will advise KCR dora to help the Maadiga community.

Other major differences include - more Kammas and Kapus in Andhra, and more Reddys and Velamas in Telangana.
