...."most of the 220 people facing dismissal had been required as part of their severance to train Indian immigrants with H-1B and other visas"

Time to reform and stop the misuse by the "H1-B crooks" Actually, simply scrape the H1-B and make a US education a neessary qualification or a OPT as a requirement. This will also somewhat "train" these potential code coolies.

That time will never come. Scrapping the H1b program would be like snatching the needle from a heroin addict. America cannot afford to live without the subsidy provided by Code coolies.

Yes....agree... reduce H1B to 60,000 as in the old days, and ensure no US/GC dude is laid off. This will be a challenge but should make it SOMEHOW punishable and costly.

H1B is a red herring in many of these cases. Why would any company employ a 60-yr old or 53-yr old drawing 150k or 200k a year to do some lowly system administrator kind of a role that can be done much more efficiently by a 25 year old drawing 55k?

Those folks were going to lose their sinecures anyway regardless of whether there was a H1B program or not.

ATM machines have replaced thousands of bank tellers, yet nobody yelled and screamed about the unfairness of automization. And a majority of the ATM's are manufactured in China. Cost-cutting and profit-making is part of Capitalism. Outsourcing is an offshoot of that.

A friend of my niece who worked for Cognizant in Chennai was recently promoted to head the IT department of a New England bank under H1B because of her expertise. Yet she is only making half the salary of the guy she replaced. How do you balance politics with Wall Street?
