India is embarking on another trip where it could be embarrassed again with in six months of utter humiliation in england. Indian bowling unit when it is fully fit is probably an International B unit (England, SA and Pak are 'a Class). With Praveen out, Zaheer hoping to be fit and Ishant known to be nursing a sore ankle and 4 new comers (aswin, Umesh, vinay and mithun), Indian bowling unit is not even B class. It is difficult to understand Mithun's selection as anything but a very, very long project.

In spin dept, they may present decent pair in Ashwin and Ojha. But they will not get much support from pitch. So their role is mostly filling long gaps between 'fast bowlers' and contain runs if they could and look for rare assistance 4th or 5th day pitches. Unless Zaheer, Umesh and Ishant create some pressure, Australian team may come back to batting form in full force this series. Pointing may become the batsmen of his youth. India may see long sessions without wickets. Sehwag's Indore knock may repeat itself but against India by Watson. A very possible scenario.

Indian Batting may be ok if seniors show up. India's only chance is batting first and scoring 600 in every test to put some pressure on aussies. Australian bowling is also in bad shape and is rebuilding. However, Pattinson, cummings and siddle could become lethal in helpful home conditions. Indian batting vs new aussie bowling unit may see some fight . That is the key to series. If Indian batting shows up, India may salvage pride and get some positive results from the series. Any good bursts of bowling and success from Indian bowling unit is a bonus.

My prediction is advantage Australia 2-0 or 2-1(a small chance).

AUS vs IND is going to be an awesome series. only in the QF of the world cup, it was touted as the contest between an unstoppable force and an immovable object. and now it is a contest between an unpredictable side and well, another unpredictable side. everything about AUS in unpredictable and IND has unpredictable bowling. zaheer khan never mattered to IND more than in this series. he plays all four matches without breakign down and we have a real chance to create history.

I have a strange feeling about this Indian bowling... how successful Ashwin and Ojha - will hv to wait and see. Will Ishant be just as successful - will hv to wait and see. Will Zaheer be healthy - will have to wait and see. Mithun and Vinay - same thing will hv to wait and see.

In other words, the series itself will be an experiment and just as all experiments go wrong before getting the expected results, this one is a huge gamble.

What I am afraid of is that Indians will resurrect the Aussie batting and make them competitive once again.

In short, added pressure on the batsmen. Keeping fingers crossed.

Vinay and Mithun will have questions marks till they provide some utility.

Kohli and sharma carried India against WI in ODI. They still need to prove that can bat outside India and against some real fast bowling.

Gambhir needs to score big. It has been a long time.

Sehwag needs to show that his england farce is over and he is back for real.

AND Sachin and Zaheer need to prove they are the leaders in batting and bowling.

Aussies are vulnerable but India have so many issues, they may end help aussies regroup.

yes, fooling WI batsmen on rank turners is no big deal. one shouldn't read too much into the five-fers, hundreds and double hundreds against WI. gambhir needs to score runs against AUS in AUS. we must open well. can't wait. can't wait. can't wait.

Jenning's out for 2-4 weeks but you're right - they'll keep rolling offensively. Their defense is, at best, opportunistic. You never know with their defense...
So, it might come down to ARod all the way...
