Amazingly, Rig Veda several thousand years ago talks about people hoping and praying for a life of 100 yrs. (autumns), which indicates that the maximum life expectancy (about 100 yrs) has remained pretty much the same over several millenniums (from Rig Vedic period till now) in spite of tremendous human, social and medicinal progress.

Well, the Chinese have a saying that goes something like this: fatty food is created so that the rich don't live forever.

The enhancement in life expectancy has curved off in the 1990's mainly due to life style changes - eating too much and having no exercise.......  If poverty doesn't kill people obesity will. Like in most other animal species, human population is regulated by one mechanism or the other.......

However, a case can still be made for prolonging life forever.
