Malayali traders threatened, forced to leave TN Express News Service , The New Indian Express
KANNUR: A group of traders doing business in Tamil Nadu returned to their native villages here following the harassment and threats by some natives of Tamil Nadu, raising the Mullaperiyar issue.
The traders who reached here by train from Erode, Perunthura, Dindugal and nearby areas said that they weren’t allowed to open their shops by a group under the banner of the Tamil Vyavasaya Sangham.
The traders who opened their shops were threatened by the members of the group, they said.
They had filed a complaint with the DGP of Tamil Nadu about the attacks on their shops, but the police protection offered to them was of no use.
The traders left Tamil Nadu when the agitating groups on the Mullaperiyar row used weapons to threaten the Malayali traders, they said.
The traders who were forced to leave Tamil Nadu and reached here by train on Wednesday morning filed a complaint with the District Superintendent of Police, Anoop Kuruvila.
A good many of the students studying in various professional colleges in Tamil Nadu had already returned following the worsening situation in Tamil Nadu
