Indian team is showing great game over the past year. Yes. They are playing in India. But a good team wins comfortably when it has advantages such as home field. The pitches can be considered test class and allowed batting and bowling an even chance. 

Visiting New Zealand team and England team are good teams with world leading batsmen (Cook, Root, and Bairstow) and very good bowlers (Anderson,  Rashid, Stokes, Southee and Boult). While India is likely win 4th test, England could still put enough runs to cause anxious moments for India. 

India team is now revolving around Kohli and Ashwin and is well supported by Vijay and Pujara in batting and Jadeja, Jayant, and Shammi in bowling. The best thing about this team is one or the other guy is raising hand in times of crisis. It has Kumble to guide them.

This team needs to improve depth in batting with Rahul, Rahane, and Rohit Sharma contributing more.  Bowling in India is adequate. Indian pace needs to improve to become productive in favorable conditions abroad. 

Is India the best team in the world? India can certainly make a claim based on performance. But it can only be considered the best if it can win regularly and convincingly outside India.

At this time, all major cricketing countries in the world are limited to winning in their backyard.  70's WI team or turn of the century Australian teams do not exist. 

Just for record, England won last series (2012/13) played in India. 

Indian team is doing what it has to win the games on hand. If it wins lot of games outside home, it will be labeled as a good or even a great team. This team has the batting potential but still needs to prove themselves in bowling outside India.
