Why are these dar-ul-uloom guys getting worked up over his visit to India? Aren't these the same guys while ensconned in the heart of India (in UP) say that India is a non-Islamoic country (and by that measure alone is enemy territory for muslims)?

Even the Iranians (who are supposed to be muslimer than Indian muslims and Pakistanis) said bygones be bygones, and lifted the fatwa on his head.

indo -- i am unable to make sense of your post. is rushdie visiting india? what does the sentence below mean?

1. Rushdie plans to visit India.

2. Dar-ul-uloom an islamic seminary in India located in UP urged the govt. to deny Rushdie a visa (he is a British citizen) because he authored Satanic Verses, and therefore is an enemy of Islam. These are the folks who believe that India is enemy territory (because it's non-islamic).

3. Interestingly, even when a reputedly really islamic fundamentalist regime in Iran forgave him (they lifted the fatwa on his head), dar-ul-uloom in India, in order to trumpet their islamic credentials, are urging the Indian govt to take action against Rushdie.

That is the irony. Btw, Rushdie doesn't need a fresh Indian Visa now. He is a holder of a PIO card or something similar.
