finally watched it. much had been said about it. regardless, loved it. Great story, well made, sensitive scenes and situations well handled. Makes you love the characters. Makes you cry by the end, and smile too. (I personally know a CP girl in my close family friends, who also got married)

when life gives you lemons, make margarita. That's part of the reason the writer-director titled the film, and so apt. It's biographical part about her cousin and part herself.

Spent the rest of the day reading... read on wiki that she (Laila) gave (in the computer voice) a speech in the end, but in netflix version there was just her mother's voice singing. Will try to see if I can find a video of it.

And wow I had no idea about Shonali Bose, and her former husband Debabrata Pyne/Pain, and their son. Googled coz she had dedicated it to her son in the end. I had watched Amu, but at that time didn't search up on Shonali Bose. Now I want to watch Chittagong.

You did, finally. I think i gave my review of this in my movie recos here. Loved it! Loved Kalki'a acting! The message I got from the fag end of the movie is, 'be your own date, damn it and enjoy life. Everything else can give you heartaches.'

yep! love yourself, celebrate life. celebrate even the ones who are now gone (that's what the director and the main protagonist did, but it must be so damn hard)

Yeah. Anger, bitterness and love can all go together and eventually, the negatives subside.

My co-writer, Nilesh Maniyar and I had spoken about the story, but I started writing the first draft on Ishaan's birthday, January 20, 2011, four months after his death. On that day, I was able to celebrate him even though he was no longer there, and that gave me the courage to go back to writing

What about her son? Did he have cerebral palsy?

Edit: I dug up my review of the movie:

2. Margarita with a straw: A Kalki's movie again. You'll surely be awestruck by her acting prowess. She is undoubtedly the finest actress in India right now. It's a very bold movie where a wheelchair bound quadraplegic with Cerebral palsy, Kalki (Laila), explores her sexuality. Brilliant performance by Kalki and Revathi as her mother. The ending has a beautiful message, probably to everyone.

no, he died in a freak accident... the parents claim he got burnt from a faulty razor, but they lost the lawsuit. The defense claimed he was a drug addict who set himself on fire.
