Holds true for girls too. None of my nieces back in India can cook, nor does my kid cousin who lives with her parents here in atl can. Even back in my generation, most girls didn't know cooking until after they got married or after they came to US to do their MS. Necessity is the mother of all learning. When their tummies growl with hunger and there's no one to feed them, they are forced to learn to cook for themselves. My boys learned cooking after they started living in the college campuses. They don't want to cook indian food coz it's too elaborate. They'd rather cook pastas, chilli, slow cooker recipes than dal, sabzi, sambar, etc.
