"There is a wisdom which knows when to pursue and when to let go, what is to be done and what is not to be done, what is fear and what is courage, what is bondage and what is liberation -- that is pure wisdom of Sattva (the mode of light)." (the Bhagvad Gita: Ch. 18 - V. 30)

"Impure wisdom of Rajas (the mode of passion) has no clear vision of what is right and what is wrong, and what should be done and what should not be done." (the Bhagvad Gita: Ch. 18 - V. 31)

"and the wisdom is obscured in darkness (Tamas) when wrong is thought to be right, and when things are thought to be that which they are not." (the Bhagvad Gita: Ch. 18 - V. 32)

"God is the same to all beings, neither disfavoring nor favoring anyone; whatever way one adores and believes in God, that yields the fruit accordingly (as Sattva or the mode of light; or as Rajas or the mode of passion; or as Tamas or the mode of darkness)." (the Bhagvad Gita: Ch. 9 - V. 29)

Incidentally, if the celebration / adoration of the Deity includes offerings of smoke, drink etc., then that type of worship is Tamas including its outcome (Tamsic).
