An Associated Press analysis shows that Obama holds the lead right now when it comes to electoral college votes. Everything of course hinges on the economy, but if Obama can count 242 votes in his bucket, all he needs to do is flip a couple of smaller swing states and he is home.

RealClearPolitics has a slightly different take, but with similar implications: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map.html

At the end of the day, the unemployment rate as of Sep-Oct will be the most important indicator for how this election goes, but it is interesting that Obama has an electoral college lead although unemployment is still north of 8% after more than three years of his administration.

>>>> Goes to show you how bad the GOP is in terms of getting its act together. The fissures within the party are a bigger enemy than Obama, judging by the way things have evolved.
