Obama's election in 2012 seems to be entwined with unemployment and european crisis.

December 11- US economy prospects were considered weak and unemployment was going down slowly. Obama looked very vulnerable. However Republicans were busy shredding each other.

January 12 - Unemployment moved down due to labor participation numbers going down (denominator going down while denominator held somewhat steady) . Stock market become optimistic . US looked up. Obama started to make a strong move.

March 12 - Couple of months of strong job gains. Strong Wall street. Strong market predictions. Obama was far ahead of primary tied down Mitt romney.

May 12 - Couple of months of weak job gains. terrible state govt budgets. Job cuts at major corps increased. With Repub nomination in hand, Mitt romney has regained lost time. Obama is still slightly ahead but romney is catching up.

Electoral college

Obama - 220 plus

Romney - 190 to 200

Major fight is expected in states: Florida, Ohio, Virginia and North carolina
Iowa, Nevada, Colorado, Missouri could go eother way.

Romney: VP pick - Mark rubio (young , may give him a major boost with young crowd and could deliver Florida) or portman (popular in Ohio but boring like Romney

It looks like the job market is not really recovering. The last few months were a seasonal blip due to the warm winter. There is no potential for any stimulus, so things won't turn around dramatically between now and September. This is the biggest worry for Team Obama. They will probably go back to the mode of "what can we do by executive order without Congress" that they adopted late last year.
