Addressing the Princeton graduates, Michael Lewis says that one tends to forget the importance of luck in achieving success. It is not all about talent but also being in the right place at the right time or being born to a supportive set of parents and explains his own success as a result of this. He also stresses on the idea of noblesse oblige, a forgotten concept.

best graduation speech ever. clap thanks for posting this. i'll have my kids watch it. busts the myth of meritocracy in society. luck's role is underestimated in success and along with success comes an obligation that you describe as "noblesse oblige" -- to return the debt to those who have been unlucky. we don't like the idea of facing the truth that luck actually has a role to play in success -- it makes us uncomfortable.
