Like any good business with traditional growth trajectory, your organization's adherents are growing by leaps and bounds in Chennai. Within a span of a decade, your business plan milestones have been exceeded both in terms of numbers and budgets. The whitest of all buildings in a neighborhood usually belongs to a stripe of the kingdom of heaven. The masses that throng the churches on sundays holds up traffic and announces to the whole wide world that you are a voting bloc to be reckoned with. There may be some teething troubles like the two friends of our driver (recent converts that were promised material wealth far beyond their hindu neighbors) who complain about *having* to attend church every friggin' sunday and sign attendance - the pressures of peers is always underestimated. But fear not, for there are more in them thar byzantine lanes.

The temples on the other hand are foundering - a third of the hundi is set aside for Amma & minions, the rest is declared as collections. 20 paise on the rupee gets spent finally on real maintenance. In perpetual state of disrepair, beggars of all stripes roam the prakarams and the NRI brahmins that barely put up with the sauna experience of the sanctum sanctorums of these temples make no dent to the upkeep of these structures.

So, at half-time, Churches - 1, Temples - 0.
