How Annadurai taught Thirukural to students at Yale university (Tamil Content)

தமிழகத்தில் பரவலாக சொல்லப்படும் இன்னொரு விஷயம், ‘அறிஞர் அண்ணா, யேல் பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் மாணவர்களுக்கு திருக்குறள் வகுப்பு நடத்தினார்’ என்பதுதான். தமிழக முதல்வராக இருந்த சி.என்.அண்ணாதுரை, அமெரிக்க அரசின் அழைப்பை ஏற்று, யேல் பல்கலைக் கழகத்திற்குப் போனார். அங்கே நடந்தது பற்றி அண்ணாதுரையோடு உடன் இருந்த டாக்டர் எம்.எஸ். உதயமூர்த்தி எழுதுகிறார் :

“யேல் பல்கலைக் கழகத்தில் அண்ணாவைப் பார்க்க பத்திரிகை நிருபர்கள் வந்திருந்தார்கள். மதியம் மூன்று மணிக்குக் கூட்டம். ஆனால் அண்ணா வரவில்லை. என்னை அனுப்பினார்கள் அழைத்து வர. சென்றேன். அண்ணா குறட்டை விட்டுத் தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். திரும்பி விட்டேன். மணி நாலுக்கு மேலே ஆகிவிட்டது. ‘ஒரு ஃபோட்டோ எடுத்துக் கொண்டால் போதும்’ என்று நிருபர்கள் தவித்தார்கள், அவசரத்துடன். அண்ணா மாடியிலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்தார். கையில் ஒரு புத்தகத்துடன் வந்தார். “உங்களை ஒரு படம் எடுத்துக் கொள்கிறோம்.... அந்தப் புத்தகத்தைப் படிப்பது போல் வைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள்” என்றார்கள். மூன்று நான்குபேர்தான் இருந்தோம். அண்ணா கையில் வைத்திருந்த புத்தகம் திருக்குறள். உடனே மறுநாள் இந்தியன் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் நிருபர், ஆந்திராக்காரர், “அண்ணா திருக்குறளை அங்கு மாணவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தார்” என்று படத்தின் கீழே எழுதியனுப்பி விட்டார். அப்படியே பிரசுரமாகி விட்டது. இன்றும் பலர் ‘அண்ணா அங்கு திருக்குறள் பாடம் நடத்தினார்’ என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது எனக்கு சிரிப்புதான் வருகிறது...

“சமீபத்தில் ஒரு பத்திரிகையில் யாரோ ஒருவர் Because என்ற வார்த்தையை நான்கு முறை உபயோகிக்கும்படிக் கேட்டதாகவும், அப்படி அண்ணா உபயோகித்து அமெரிக்காவில் தனது புலமையைக் காட்டியதாகவும் எழுதி ‘டூப்’ விட்டிருந்தார். அப்படி எதுவும் நடக்கவில்லை.”

quite disappointing..perhaps at that time he was not a giant and needed the attention..did he ever in any of his own talks cite that he had taught thirukkuraL at yale ?

another one at yale- annA was supposed to have given a talk in english there that he began by saying ' i rarely speak english but my english is not rare..' anyways, IMO he's a rare uncommon man

But he did not do anything to dispel the myth that he taught Thirukurul to students at Yale. I think he visited the United States after he became the Chief Minister.

Anyway he was quite decent to his political opponents and a much better human being than Karunanidhi.

When in course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinion of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which shall impel them to the separation.
