Tamil: sacred, sweet, sublime,
Is a treasure growing with the course of time:
Rich in words and thoughts profound
Unique in structure, syntax, sound!
Valluvar, poet of immortal fame,
Author of couplets, Kural by name;
Lofty his thoughts, lively his rhymes,
Legends upon him are spun sometimes.
Unseemly to argue about his creed,
Verily, for this, there is no need.
Ask not he belonged to religion which,
Rejoice in the Tamil that he made so rich!
