It is amazing someone (Rick Perry?) said teachers should have access to weapons when the gun used was a teacher's gun.

the NRA and the untrammeled application of the second amendment in this country have put us in a place where posting cops in all schools sounds like a good idea. i find myself strangely agreeing with them at least until such time as we do something about the circulation of these godawful instruments of mass murder in the US. yes i know it sounds crazy, but that's where they have brought us. our kids being educated in an armed camp is actually sounding like a reasonable idea.

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," LaPierre said.
imo, this is the crux of the problem. violence is glorified in the US as long as it is a "good guy" killing a "bad guy". most of the movies, video games and yes, the national policy are all dictated by this. the "good guys" have the right to kill whoever they consider weird, lunatic or crazy - in other words, "bad".
this belief is strongly instilled in many americans and is precisely what makes the government justify killing innocent children and civilians abroad. the "good guys" make these tough decisions and the collateral damage suffered is part of this "good" cause.
the problem is that the definition of "good" and "bad" is not universal. most of these mass murderers were also thinking along the same lines - we need to teach the "bad people" a lesson and the use of violence is perfectly justifiable.
there is never a question or debate on whether violence in itself is desirable. it is only about who has the right to be violent.
