How about doing a Thuglak on Delhi?

Now that Delhi has the dubious distinction of being the rape capital of India, how about shifting the capital to a more civilized city - a place in SI?

Bangalore? Hyderabad? Pune? Ooty? Kodaikanal? Horsley Hills, Araku, Udupi ..............

Do you propose to implement it Tughlaq style as well: forcing all residents (including the rapists) to move to the new capital city?What problem is this going to solve? My naive guess is that the "rape" part of "rape capital" is a problem.

Tughlaq probably had better reasons for moving.

The empire grew under his son and successor Muhammad bin Tughluq, but the latter became notorious for ill-advised policy experiments such as shifting the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad and introducing copper coins without effective regulation against forgery. Tughluqi has as a result become synonym for brilliant if stubborn eccentricity in the Urdu language.

Delhi was an easier target for invaders and Daulatabad was in a more central location allowing for better control of his empire. However, instead of just shifting his administration, he forced all citizens to move. Blind beggars were dragged all the way to Daulatabad. And then he decided to move all of them back.

It won't stop the rapes in Delhi but you'll care about it as much as you might care about rapes in Karnal or Hisar or any of those equally anti-woman places in India. Once the Union government moves out, Delhi should be made state capital of Haryana, a more befitting status for that city.

Yep. Punish the city. It deserves it. Not the judicial system, not the law and order, not the culture. Rip the city of its status, spend years in building some other city as a capital and then hope that no one inserts a rod inside a girl in that one. Or else we may have to do this exercise all over again.

Hmm.. I just used Thuglak'k name. Didn't mean to suggest that we do exactly as he did. Moreover, why would bhaiyyas want to eat dosa, utappam, idli and sambar on a regular basis and not have a chance to do some Delhi-ish groping and learing?
