Misconception about Commander (Part 1 posted Feb 1 2013)
Many of you just read newspapers and form general opinions without integrationg the total information over the years.
One poster said "diplomatic resolution that he did not take"
Do you really think Sinhala leaders would treat Tamils equally?
Dr. Thanjai Nalankilli once wisely wrote Amount of power that Sinhala leaders would reluctantly agree to devolute is directly proportional to the fire power (military strength) of the Tamil minority.
Tamils were at their military peak in 2000 having taken almost all of north and surrounding one-third of Sri Lankan army with no escape route. There was talk of seamless federation. By February 2009 Sinhala leaders were of the opinion that Tamil Army could be wiped out. The word federation was taken out of the conversation. Not only Rapapaksa but also his UNP opponent who was negoitiating with Tamils about federation. In 2009 the word federation was not uttered by a single top Sinhala politician.

A doiplomatic solution that treats Tamils as equal was (is) available to Tamils.

When IPKF was deployed.
Actually Tamils thought a solution possible. Then they realized India had TAKEN BRIBE from Lanka and was putting a show top disarm Tamil Army.
1. India wanted Tamil Army to disarm before a decision is made on (1) merger of north and east (a key demand by ALL Tamils at that timne) (2) what powers would be devolved to Tamils (it was not spelled out. Will Tamil get police power? Left open).
What bribe did India take. In exchage for ending Tamil rebellion Lanka (1) gave exclusive access to Tricomalee harbor and (2)agreed not to expand Voice of America facilities in Lanka,
THese two were in a secret letter signed bby SL and India but not revealed. An Indian newspaper published it. What has these 2 to do with Tamil grievances? Why were these two "concession" kept secret?
There was no chance of Tamiloas getting equal treatment because of IPKF. When the mediator (with a large army stationed in the disputed area) gets bribe from one side, can you expect a just solution?

>>>> And you say this despite what tenzing nalangilay himself has written in the tamil tribyuone this is all propaganda. The only source of info that can be trusted is tenzing norgay's thiru-boone. Let the record reflect that. Thanks
