Con games over Telangana continue
After firmly lodging his foot in the back of his mouth over the killing of Indian soldiers at the LoC, Defense Minister AK Antony now has a new assignment: to address the grievances of Seemandhra people over the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The Antony Committee, with widely-respected statesmen Diggy Raja, Ahmed Patel, and Veerappa Moily on it, will listen to the concerns of SA leaders and submit a report to the empress in due course. The empress seems to have promised to Seemandhra leaders to step on the brakes with the bifurcation process. Given the way the party works, it not clear to me whether this represents a real slowdown of the process, or a fig leaf covering up High Command's purchase of parliamentary silence from SA leaders in exchange for undisclosed goodies.
A senior MP of Seemandhra said since the region’s Congress leaders were satisfied with Ms. Gandhi’s assurance on keeping the process of Telangana formation on hold till the Antony committee gave its report, the party MPs from Seemandhra would not disrupt Parliament proceedings from Wednesday.
In the meanwhile, Congress leaders from Rayalaseema are advocating a Rayalaseema state including Nellore and Prakasam districts. Whatever relief investors and businesses in Hyderabad felt about a clear decision two weeks ago has evaporated by now. We are again looking at prolonged uncertainty and a resulting slowdown in growth.

Wasn't this evident from the outset? Congress will just give out its decision now and set some superficial top level processes ON, like this committee. By the time these are arranged - poll phase starts and it is upon the incumbent government and political leadership at the Centre and AP to really execute the same. If we go by the current poll predictions, we'll have neither UPA nor NDA led govt. And if neither of these are calling the shots then it is unlikely that the assorted umbrella coalition will do anything but keep the status quo.Idéfix wrote:

That ("on hold") was attributed to Pallam Raju but he denied having said it. In fact, MT called him and gave the marching orders. He is quietly sitting in his office (apparently, he is scared of going to his home town).

Yeah, this is what we call musugulO guddulATa... hard to tell from the outside whether they are hitting each other or doing something else. I suspect these guys have been bought off by High Command. I wonder what the price was. If they actually put it on hold now, their original political calculus of winning Telangana and weakening Jagan goes awry.

I know, I meant continuation of the same; that's why I said "again." Businesses have been in limbo for several years now over this nonsense.
