Yes.Vidya Bagchi wrote:you totaled your last car when u rear ended it?
It was severely damaged at the front.
I do not have comprehensive coverage.
It was 1996 Toyota Corolla with 230K miles.
Not worth fixing it.

I am impressed. The longest I have used is 189K. I have one running at 159K.Rishi wrote:Yes.Vidya Bagchi wrote:you totaled your last car when u rear ended it?

check out www.bluebook.com for any comparison.
it says around $11,500 from a private party. I would think you can get it for 9500 - 11,500. if you are living in a city, it will be at the lower end. But, be flexible and get the car. You will drive it till your first SS check.
No point in going to dealers as they ask 20 to 25% more. Nothing can be wrong in a 3 yr old Corolla with just 20K. buy it blindly.

2010 toyota corolla
Be aware. The silver 2010 Corolla LE listed on here was totaled, salvaged and title re-branded in 2 other states. The owner bought it and trying to flip it onto someone else for a profit. Investigate before you buy. Check Carfax at the least.
Someone else checked out the car and told me the VIN is: 1NXBU4EE3AZ193419

why do you want to buy a used car?
go for new corolla (2013 model) for just 3-4K more. per month cost will be more or less the same and you get the mental peace.

May be you can talk him down a couple of hundred. But 13K is a fair price. Here is a listing of such cars from cars.com (Washington area). I asked for the LE models. The plain "L"s are a $1000-1500 cheaper, and the "S"s are about $1500-2000 more.Rishi wrote:Car Fax report looks good.

Check the VIN on the door, the dash and thenoisy_dravidfan wrote:i was going to suggest carfax. samiyaar isn't as street smart as he thinks he is.
Check VIN number on the vehicles....Ask to see the title, and carfax is fine to check about the car.
All I was saying was no need to go through a used car dealer for this price and models. The title should tell when the car was bought and how long the guy owned it. Usually, I go with cars that are original buyer owned or a 2 owners at best. If you buy from a dealer you may not know it.
Also, used car dealers (not the ones who also have new car dealerships) flip "salvaged" cars. Most used car dealers in midwest sell salvaged vehicles. I have driven salvaged vehicles for many years. My current 159K car is a salvaged vehicle.

Even before checking carfax, a simple google search on the vin now could save your headaches/$. I almost bought one altima few years ago from an Insurance agent who was also dealing in used cars. The car looked very nice inside and outside but the price was considerably low and when I asked about the condition/title and he said everything is good. So I checked the car with a workshop which was nearby to the dealer and they checked everything but could not find anything wrong but they said they are suspicious that the car might have been in an accident but could not say it confirmed but otherwise recommended the car for the price I was planning to pay. Still not able to believe it, I just ran a google search on the VIN no and voila!. The car was involved in an accident and totalled and been in junkyard of an Insurance company. It looks like this guy is dealing in salvaged cars and fixing them and selling them. The vin no was in a russian site with pictures of before and after fixing of the car:)

No specific site. I just ran a google search on the VIN no, and it came up in the list of search results. I dont remember the exact site name.
