22 Hostels for BC, MBC and Denotified Communities Thrown Open by Jayalalithaa

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday inaugurated 22 hostels for students belonging to the BC, MBC and Denotified Communities, constructed at a cost of `12.90 crore. Eleven of the hostels are for BC students studying in schools and colleges while nine are for students belonging to MBC and two for the Denotified Communities.

The hostels inaugurated by the Chief Minister through video conferencing facility at the Secretariat are located at Thoppampatti, Thandikudi, Dindigul, Periyakottai, Siddaiyankottai, Oddanchatram, Chengleput, Madurantakam, Uranipuram, Thirupoonthuruthi, Anna Village, Vriddhachalam, Thirunavalur, Kallakurichi, Ayakkaranpulam, Karai, Gudalur, Paramakudi, Mettupalayam, Thuvakkudi, Thiruchuzhi and Nannilam. They have dining tables made of granite, fire extinquishers, exhaust fans, solar-powered water heaters, refrigerators and improved kitchens.

The Chief Minister inaugurated two hostels for men and women employees working with the Indian and multi-national companies in the five SIPCOT parks in Sriperumbudur and in Oragadam. The hostels constructed at a cost of Rs 9.81 crore, can accommodate 1,000 employees at a nominal rent.

Considering the difficulties faced by the employees of the companies in and around Sriperumbudur in getting accommodation, the new hostels have been constructed.

The men’s hostel can accommodate 400 employees and has been built in 2.01 acres. The women’s hostel, constructed in 1.85 acres can accommodate 600 women employees. Both have kitchens, store rooms, dining halls, bathrooms, toilets, water tanks, first aid centre and entertainment rooms.
