Really. Read the history on these negotiations. It was MMS govt's policy that modi is continuing. This is a long standing issue.

Really. Read the history on these negotiations. It was MMS govt's policy that modi is continuing. This is a long standing issue.

MMS approved the agreement with a few caveats - for the consumption of Indian voters. They assumed they would win the elections and could go along with the west with the final approval. The West also included the "addendums" assuming they could easily "buy" Sonia. That was the reason they did not follow through on any of the "conditions" including food-security issues until now. The reason is simply the West had taken India for granted and with elections over India would sign on the dotted line.

But, by insisting on the conditions, Modi ji has made the West sit up. Note that none of the poorer countries are raising any voice. Obviously they cannot be all in the side of West. They are simply afraid of the west - as the US has used aid and other means to buy the support of poor countries in the past.

This will raise the stature of India in the eyes of South America and Africa - which are important for India for their natural resources.

You have stated your opinions as facts.current. agricultural negotiations started in 2000 and went through several rounds. Dohaand Bali were later rounds. Indian govt held similar views throughout. One of the reasons for Indian steadyfast opposition is Indian food security act. This laws put India in direct conflict with wto requirements. That food security act is a upa favorite.

Read the whole history of these negotiations to understand the difference between narrow national political differences and international economic differences between the interests of developed nations and developing nations.
