Bali is beautiful because....
......it has a living Hindu culture. Living in harmony with nature and caring for the environment are natural for pagan cultures like Hinduism and Shintoism.....

......When pagan cultures are destroyed and dogma takes over, this is what happens:

......These days, modern Western cultures are talking about environmental protection and preserving animal species after mindlessly destroying the forests, polluting the rivers and exterminating the bison. In other words, they are moving away from dogma and greed, and are embracing Pagan values.....

Guruvu-gaaru, you overstate the case. Parts of Java are no less beautiful than Bali, although Java is a Muslim majority island. Javanese people are quite comfortable with their Hindu/Buddhist ancestry and are proud of the cultural and technological accomplishments of their Hindu/Buddhist ancestors. They call their biggest festival hari rAya -- known to Indian Muslims as Ramzan. Megawati Sukarnoputri is a Sunni Muslim.Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:......it has a living Hindu culture. Face it, guruvu-gaaru, ritual Hinduism plays a big part in destroying the Ganga. For people born outside the Gangetic plain, it used to be very difficult to go take bath in the Ganga so millions of people did not overwhelm the river. They didn't take bath with synthetic soaps and shampoos that won't easily decompose. Most Indians did not have the ability to take their dead or their ashes to the Ganga; now millions can afford to do it so they go ahead and do it. Hindus today do what their ancestors aspired to do, but could not afford to do. By not changing their customs, they have indeed destroyed the Ganga. Blaming it on secularism will only make the problems worse.Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:In India, Sikularism is destroying Hinduism......

Re: Bali is beautiful because....
I agree. Successive governments neglected to address the problems in Varanasi. However, there are pollution-related issues upstream as well (Kanpur, for example) that are politically sensitive. Throwing dead bodies into rivers is not proper. I saw how Varanasi is like. From the Pandas to cremation rituals, many there are highly Sikular corrupt bhaiyyas. Modi is supposed to clean up Ganga. Looks like he is not doing much. Sad......Idéfix wrote:Face it, guruvu-gaaru, ritual Hinduism plays a big part in destroying the Ganga.
