Correct. But I would explain it as:
D= 500 (roman numerals). 
So Car seller = Dealer = the guy who distributes car(d)s (like in a card game).

(PI sorta walked me thru it - I was going saas sasuma sans gravy curry.. when she said demands is a homophone. I don't know how to read clues... )

Yes, it's SAUCE (what remains after you remove mutter and paneer from mutter-paneer) as a homophone of SAAS (mother-in-law in the Saas-Bahu of Indian soaps).

Homophone clues always have a "sound" indicator word (shout, aloud, hear. bellow, order, demand, cry. whisper, etc.). This clue doesn't have any word that has "sound" associated with it. So the clue is not a homophone. It's some other kind of clue (W-in-W, A+B, DD, Hid, Rev, etc.).
