Jaggi says that the term Hindu originated from the geographical region between the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean (Indu saagara, as he calls it); and has nothing to do with religion; i.e. Region vs Religion. Is there any historical proof, Rashmun or Seva?

Well, Vaisnavites and Saivites were considered separate religions - like Catholics and Protestants.

The words 'Hind' and 'Hindu' were originally coined by persians to denote, respectively, the land and the people south of the Indus river.

in general, local/domestic population do not name lots of things for eg  a river, a mountain and such in their environment; they are simply called river mountain etc., there is no need to name them unless they have to be distinguished between two or more similar ones. even those are invariably tagged with a prefix. It's always the invaders/guests Wink from distant regions give labels and names.
