this is an interesting experiment with very satisfactory results. cross-pollination between the two genres of indian classical music has been going for ages, but more recently it has always been hindustani musicians borrowing carnatic melakarthas. i don't think any seriously borrowing going the other way has happened since the 19th century after muthuswamy dikshitar. here is a very beautiful rendition of raga jog, a bluesy hindustani raga rendered in a ragam-thanam-pallavi format by the trichur brothers. the thanam portion which is usually unaccompanied singing of nonsensical nom-tom phrases, is here accompanied by the mridangam (a palakkad specialty). the recording quality is poor, but i hope that doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the music.
