To Heaven and back...
Costa Rica!!
This little country has it all; dense rain forests, beautiful beaches, active volcanoes, hot springs, lovely rivers and waterfalls, vast coffee plantations, a variety of flora and fauna, colorful birds and butterflies, sloths, hauling monkeys and other animals, ancient history, abundant tropical fruits....you name it!!
There’s a lot of adventurous things to do: Zip lining, kayaking, tubing, horse riding, bungee jumping, hiking and all. The best country to vacation with the family!
The best part is that you don’t need a visa to go there, US dollars are accepted everywhere, there’s a direct flight from atlanta with just 3.5 hrs of flight time and we get good deals every so often (right now it’s just $370 round trip).
Five days wasn’t enough. There’s still more to do and explore in this lovely country. Will surely go back whenever my heart desires.
Forgot to add: Pura Vida!!
PS: Having a terrible hangover of the beautiful Costa Rica right now!

What a beautiful way to live life: Pura Vida!!
If you have been to Costa Rica, or if you are planning a Costa Rica vacation, one term you should be familiar with is “Pura Vida” (pronounces poo-rah vee-dah). Simply translated, it means “simple life” or “pure life”, but here in Costa Rica, it is more than just a saying—it is a way of life.
Costa Ricans (Ticos) use this term to say hello, to say goodbye, to say everything’s great, to say everything’s cool. However, it is not the words that reflect the true meaning of ¡Pura Vida!. Pura Vida is the way Ticos live. Not surprisingly, Costa Rica has been named one of the happiest countries in the world, mostly because its inhabitants don’t stress about things the way most foreigners do. Ticos have a very relaxed, simple way of looking at life. No worries, no fuss, no stress—pura vida to them means being thankful for what they have and not dwelling on the negative.
Although many people love to use the phrase, not many know where the term actually originated. The most common explanation comes from a Mexican movie called ¡Pura vida! that came to Costa Rica 1956 (directed by Gilberto Martínez Solares). In the movie, ‘pura vida’ is the saying used by the main character who remains optimistic, despite unfortunate circumstances that continue to surround him. Although it took a little while to catch on, the phrase pura vida was being used nationwide by 1970. Today, it is an inherent part of the culture.
Although many people use the saying ‘pura vida’, until you’ve been to Costa Rica, you will not truly know what pura vida feels like. It’s an emotion, it’s an attitude, it’s happiness, and it’s a way of life. Once you’ve visited, you will understand the true meaning of pura vida.

A country without army. Good place to plan for retirement, as long as you don't plan on owning real estate.

Yes, no army, navi or air force. A civil war between the two army factions supporting two politicians led to this. They only have the police and border petrol (poor illegal immigrants from Nicaragua is a huge problem, I believe. ‘It’s a curse to be a neighbor or Nicaragua’ the guide said). What do you do if any country invades your country, I ask. We’ll go to the UN’s international court of Justice, he said. All the money saved from maintaining the army, buying the weapons and ammunition is spent on education. Education is free and compulsory until before High school. Even the remote of the remotest village has a school. That’s so ideal! English is taught in schools.confuzzled dude wrote:A country without army. Yes, it’s a great country to retire or at least spend a couple of months a year to chill out after retirement. People from US also go there to get their dental and medical procedures done.
