#StopHindiImposition Protest Erupts Against Centre's Draft Education Plan
Chennai: Hindi should not be made a mandatory third language in schools, a popular campaign on social media said on Saturday, as Twitter was flooded with messages protesting a draft education policy submitted to the new government at the centre a day ago.
Politicians from Tamil Nadu, where the subject has long been a highly emotive issue, took the lead to slam the Hindi-focused recommendations by an expert panel led by Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, a former chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). ...

>>> The language controversy and debate with regard to Hindi and Tamil, or North (with languages e.g. Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, etc.) and South (with Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada), is more hyped up than it should be. The majority of languages across India, except Tamil, and including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, etc. share the same Sanskrit based extensive alphabet system of letters (vowels and consonants) while using different writing scripts. In addition, all across India (north and south) these languages (Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, etc.) and including Tamil (which has shorter and incomplete alphabet not adequate to represent all sounds separately, unlike other Indian languages mentioned here with more number of letters in alphabet) share many common Sanskrit based words and phrases.

"Make Tamil the official language in central govt offices: DMK" (June 5, 2019): https://www.financialexpress.com/india-news/make-tamil-the-official-language-in-central-govt-offices-dmk/1598819/
>>> The problem might arise as many non-Tamil names and words will be difficult to spell correctly using Tamil alphabet due to its lack of sufficient letters (consonants especially), thus creating much confusion and mistakes when letters, applications and documents are translated back and forth between Tamil and other languages.

If you look at the indigenous languages in India (e.g. Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi and Gujarati etc., including Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam in the neighborhood of Tamil), they all share the same alphabet which is different from the Tamil alphabet, implying that Tamil might have arrived in India from outside long ago as did English and Farsi (including Urdu script) etc. somewhat recently.
