What to do if a live electrical wire from a power pole / line falls and comes in contact with a car etc., such as during vehicle accident with power pole, extreme wind, icy / snowy weather, etc., (courtesy Toronto Hydro)

Re: The danger from overhead live electrical wires falling on cars etc.
Electrocution and electric shock during accidents and bad weather etc. are serious problem in many places.
When I was young and still staying and studying in a village in H.P., one of the guys in our village used to have a large mango tree near his house. That tree had electric powerline passing over it, with only a very small clearance between the powerline and tree branches.
During rain and wind, the branches of tree would sometimes come in contact with the powerline vibrating due to wind. If someone tried to walk near the tree or approach it at that time (during rain or right after rain when the ground was still wet), he could feel the electric sensation in his body.
I didn't know anything about the ground under that mango tree getting electrically charged during and after the rain, until one day, right after rain, I tried to approach the tree to pick ripe mango fruit fallen from the tree and lying on the ground beneath it.
I was still several yards away from the tree trunk when I started getting a strange sensation in my body, which seemed to increase as I tried to move closer to the tree.
Realizing that the tree and the ground beneath it might be electrically charged and full of hazard during and after the rain due to electricity flowing from the powerline into the tree, I made a hasty retreat while giving up the idea about picking ripe mangoes lying under the tree.
I also told others about this incident with me as a warning to not approach that tree during and after the rain.
