Dara Shikoh, two other brothers whose names I don't remember, and sister Jahanara Begum. He had all his brothers killed.indophile wrote:6. Who were all (male and female) the surviving siblings of moghal emperor Aurangzeb at the time of his ascension to the throne, and how did his male siblings die?
Hilsa is Bengali a fish, haleem is a Hyderabadi mutton dish, chena-khoja sounds like a sweet made with curdled milk.indophile wrote:7. What are the following: (1) Hilsa; (2) Kava; (3) Haleem; (4) Chena-khoja;

It is all prose, not a poem set to classical meter -- unlike most works of Sanskrit literature.indophile wrote:3. What is the specialty of famous Sanskrit poet Dandi’s Dashakumara-charitam?

3. Okay, prose is not a specialty.
4. Jhelum is correct.
6. Need all the names, and also how each brother died.
7. Okay. Chena-khoja is a Puri-Khurda (Orissa) special sweet and reputedly the most delicate sweet in India. Kava is not answered, so still open.
8. Incorrect.

Kava is a Kashmiri special drink alright. I did not know it's tea. They put saffron in it too.

Sri Lanka is known for emeralds. Dara Shikoh was beheaded after being paraded through the streets of Delhi I think. Murad was the name of another brother, who allied himself with Aurangzeb in the fight against Dara. I read a history that said Aurangzeb led Murad to believe that he was acting merely in Murad's interest in that fight. I think he was also beheaded on Aurangzeb's orders.

ANSWERS:
1. In what village/town was the Man-eating Leopard of Rudraprayag killed, and who killed that leopard? ------- Jim Corbette, Badrinath.
2. Identify each place with the precious stone (gem) it’s famous for: (a) Srilanka; (b) Burma; (c) Thailand; (d) Australia.---------- (a) Sapphire (especially the star-sppphire or Indra-neela; (b) Ruby; (c) Ruby; (d) Opal
3. What is the specialty of famous Sanskrit poet Dandi’s Dashakumara-charitam? ---- Dashakumara-charitam is a compilation of accounts by 10 sons of the king (princes) of their experiences the previous year when they went to tour the world (which means India). One prince’s version has absolutely no “pa-varaga” (i.e., the letters pa, pha, ba, bha, ma) appearing anywhere in his account. The reason – his lips were completely bitten and messed up by a hot girl with whom he spent the previous night. They were swollen badly and he could not bring himself to pronounce any letter in the pa-varga all which require bringing together of the lips.
Thus, there were pages and pages of descriptions on places he visited, people he met, etc. etc., all without ever employing a letter from the pa-vargaJ
4. What was the last river that Alexander crossed on his eastward invasion? --- Jhelum. I don’t believe he crossed Beas, and he definitely did not cross Sutlej.
5. Who are the last two manifestations of Lakshmi in the ashta-Lakshmi-stotram? ---- Vidya-Lakshmi and Dhana-Lakshmi.
6. Who were all (male and female) the surviving siblings of moghal emperor Aurangzeb at the time of his ascension to the throne, and how did his male siblings die? ------ Dara, Shuja, Aurangzeb, Murad, Jehan Ara, Roshan Ara, Gaura Hara.
Dara was beheaded, Murad was slow-poisoned to death in the Gwalior Fort, Shuja was pursued by Mir Jumla (the traitor of Golconda who became Aurangzeb’s friend) all across the Gangetic plain and driven into Arakan (present northern Burma) into wilderness, and nothing was ever heard of him again. The sisters Jehan Ara and Gaura Hara led respectable lives and died natural deaths. Roshan Ara was disgraced for hiding lovers and heavily guarded by eunachs till she died.
7. What are the following: (1) Hilsa; (2) Kava; (3) Haleem; (4) Chena-khoja ------ (1) Freshwater fish from Ganga (Bengalis die for this); (2) Kashmiri drink; (3) Hyderabadi minced mutton specialty; (4) a Puri Jagannath chena delicacy
8. There are 12 books (skandas in Bhagavatam).
