Re: Wednesday Filler Trivia
ANSWERS
1. Identify the following language.
කයල් ඉළ්හි ඉස අ ගූඩ් ගිර්ල් --------- Sinhalese. Just transliterated “Kayalvizhi is a good girl” into Sinhalese. Btw, Sinhalese is the latest addition to the Google’s list of languages amenable for transliteration. http://www.google.com/transliterate
2. A pig’s body part is commonly used to replace a human body part in a certain medical procedure. What part of the pig, and what procedure? ---------– Heart valve replacement. Pig’s heart valve is used (also used are – cow’s heart valve, plastic, and metal) to replace faulty human valves. May be they use cow’s valves for people who prefer a non-pig part for religious reasons.
It appears metal valves impose a lifelong blood thinner medication on the recepient. May be Maria could verify this answer.
3. “Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks” is part of what country’s national anthem? ----- British anthem, "God save the queen…"
4. The fastest human Usain Bolt of Jamaica runs 100 meters in 9.6 seconds. How long does a healthy cheetah take to cover the same distance? --------- 6 seconds.
5. Who was the first black American to win the Nobel Prize?---------- Ralph Bunch in 1950, for negotiating an Arab-Israeli peace agreement.
6. A strand of Prophet Mohammed’s hair is supposed to be stored in the Hazratbal mosque in Srinagar (Since Aurangzeb’s time). Where is a tooth of Buddha supposedly stored? ---------- Tooth Temple in Kandy, Srilanka, since the 4th century AD.
7. What is the song originally known as the “Battle Song of the Rhine?” ---------- “La Marseillaise,” the French national anthem.
8. What is Sanka? --- Decaf coffee; "sans caffine" became Sanka. Before the advent of all popular brands getting into decaf business, Sanka was pretty much the only one.
