another sign this man has no core. he pays homage to sheldon adelson, the nevada casino tycoon every chance he gets. but he is avowedly a follower of a religion that has strictures against gambling. more proof that he has no core beliefs really.

Really ? I think he sure has some core values. How to use fudge the laws to gain personally.

His core value is to be another Madoff but a smarter one.

a republican could argue that this is a sign of Romney's tolerance of religious views held by other people.

how so? saying that he has no problems with other people's gambling is a sign of religious tolerance. how is taking campaign donations from a source that his church (and thus his own religious beliefs) says is immoral, a sign of religious tolerance?

this is the ultimate delicious irony (http://www.prayforpaulschangeofheart.org/). republicans are the ones who seldom have problems mixing religion and politics. and now it's coming back to bite them in the keester.

The only core Romney has is that he wants to do better than his dad and be elected president. He will do whatever it takes to make that happen. Intellectual gymnastics is easy.

Ryan taking money from stimulus is not hypocritical. At the time of budget he fought for ideas but the stimulus won that round. Country has only one budget and it is peoples money. Ryan rightfully asked for the share of his constituents. It is not the spoils of a war where the loser goes empty handed. Stimulus was for all people.

Well, the problem is this (from the article Maria posted):

Two years ago, during an interview on WBZ's NewsRadio he was asked by a caller if he "accepted any money" into his district. Ryan said he did not.

"I'm not one [of those] people who votes for something then writes to the government to ask them to send us money. I did not request any stimulus money," the congressman answered.

Claiming categorically that one has not done what one has indeed done is -- there is no other word for it -- lying. Lying to the press until someone produces evidence to the contrary is an indicator of poor character, not just hypocrisy.

TBT,

*Ryan voted for TARP- Bank Bailouts, he voted for the Auto Bailout..so, it's not like he "fought" for the ideas and voted "against" the various stimulus measures-but really supported those measures.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/13/paul-ryan-voted-for-the-bailouts-but-hes-since-soured-on-them/

Of course it is the people's money and as the Rep for his people..he should get the money they are entitled to, for them. But, it seems like hypocrisy when someone "votes" for something (stimulus)- help it pass and then talk about not wanting Govt to help (being "fiscally responsible"), and "not remembering"- what he asked for.

*By the time I typed this..looks like Carvaka has eloquently said what I wanted to say:)

Tarp is different from stimulus. Ryan voted for tarp. He also voted for auto bailout to support his constituency. I think he did not vote for obama stimulus. In fact no republican voted for it. As a congressman he did the right thing to get stimulus money for his people.
As far as newspaper statements are considered those are politics. I am sure both sides can find frivalous material. I wish we have couple of right wing nuts on this forum to bring us drudge report and other news to make this a two sided discussion.

TBT,

*I don't know much about Paul Ryan- or his voting record, still learning..
You are right that he did not vote for the "stimulus plan"- what I was referring to was "stimulus measures" as I see it (various ways to stimulate the economy- that includes TARP, Auto Bailout- any Govt involvement-investment- which fiscal conservatives generally oppose).

I don't think it is frivolous..think it is rather serious when one accepts that "Govt money from the stimulus plan- and does help to stimulate the economy and create jobs"- and takes that money for their districts, but speaks from the other side of their mouth and says they are against it when it comes to others doing the same.

Anyways, am not saying that Democrats are always perfect and I do read the Drudge Report from time to time, although it's not as must as the Huffington Post!

Critidizing stimulus and taking stimulus money are not contradictory. Republican argument was there were better and different ways to stimulate economy. I do not agree with many oftheir arguments. But ryan acted responsibly to take stimulus money for his voters.
