No doc with just a foreign residency can work in the U.S. Every physician has to go through a U.S. residency training program to practice here (and a U.S. fellowship to specialize further).

The difference is medical school. American medical graduates vs. foreign medical graduates (Carribean, Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian med schools). Any foreign medical graduate can live and work in a major city, however their income potential is limited because of the established competition (you'll see many of these foreign docs working for Kaiser in California and making less than a programmer with experience).

You'll also see many American medical graduates strike out for middle of nowhere Nebraska to make the big money because there is no competition for miles and reimbursement rates are very attractive. Also, you'll see more specialists doing this. The U.S. has too many specialists and too few generalists, so even a generalist can do well financially in an urban or suburban area. Specialists need referrals from generalists, so it takes a while to get established when there is a lot of competition.

I heard that docs educated in foreign countries are the ones sent to such godforsaken remote places for their residencies and such and they do so because they have no other choice.

If they don't get shot and killed by a cop or a rival gang protecting his drug turf, then it's prison time! Guess what!! Taxpayer money paying for free healthcare of prisoners again :-)

Other people getting free healthcare for life: enrolled military and returning veterans with injuries and PTSD, but they earned it.

I thought your gripe is with small towns and your husband!! Did you know that majority of the RED states are a drain on the Federal budget, you think those states are majority-minority

One of the women asked how DH got paid in a town full of deadbeats. Yes, I agree blue states are paying high federal taxes with noble intentions, but it only encourages the deadbeats in red states. Both are voting against their interests. Only inner-city blacks vote in favor of their own interests.
