iOS7 introduced Tamil keyboard

Many years ago (before Internet) Tamils wanted Tamuil telegraph. Hindian gov introduced it with fanfare. There was a glitch. You have to write the Tamil words in devanagiri script. How many Tamils know how to write devanagiri script in the 1970s?
