Tamil career

Savitri was paired with actors like Sivaji Ganesan and M. G. Ramachandran. She married Gemini Ganesan, while acting in (‘Manam Pola Mangalyam’)(1953) with him.

Going by the time line, she got married in 1953 and about that time started getting big roles. Till then she played only small roles (first para). Funny Gemini married Pushpavalli (Rekha's mom) followed by Savitri. That son of a gun - one of the few virile Tambrahmi men (GC will get all upset now).

He got the title Sivaji for his drama performance playing the role of Sivaji.

He was born "Villuppuram Chinnaiahpillai Ganesan" Not a Tambrahm in a million years.

Vanisri was a doll...but not a great actress. Savitri was in a different class altogether. She was not only given any award she was almost like a destitute towards the end.

Vanisri is a rather average looking girl with dark complexion. She had no godfathers. She came to the top through some acting talent. She was at the top for about 10 years. The only actress who could top her in her glory days was legendary. Sarada.

Sarada became a big deal 'cos f Adoor! She acted in 3 of his films I think. Too bad Telugu industry didnt make much use of her talent. Another actress who never got what she deserved was Rohini. She is a fabulous actress who never got a chance to act except one film "Sthree".

The greatness of Savitri was that she used to completely change her body language and pace of dialogue delivery between Telugu and Tamil films. Long time ago I saw one of her Tamil dubs ("Karna" with Sivaji Ganeshan acting as Karna, Savitri as Duryodhana's wife, and - believe it or not, NTR as Krishna) in Telugu, and couldn't believe it was the same Savitri.

while sarada did not get her due , she was very well recognized in Telugu. " manushulu marali " ( a remake of from Malayalam and remade into Hindi - samaj Kong badal daalo " and "sarada" are two.examples. She acted with all major heroes of Telugu industry. two of her other memorable movies are "balipeetam" and "nyayam kavali ". she acted in many other major hits.

while her peak career contribution is in Malayalam, she seem to have acted in many Telugu films in later years.

). that is by definition and he is no exception - traditionally most awards, oscar or local were given to those, men who made the maximum facial contortions, screamed, acted neurotic, hyper, psychotic or disabled or to those disaster movies. laurence olivier to brando screaming stella, dd-lewis, de niro to even the remote bachchan in namak haram or sholay for example. It depends entirely on the role/character they play how diverse the roles are, where you can be most convincing without labored make-ups /props etc.- life line for kamal haasan.

Naturally..who we behold as the great ones..has a lot to with our eyes..

Savithiri..more charming than beautiful..quite a talented actress, but did not see much versatility.

Vanishri..attractive, but too much and distracting make up..esp. some odd lipstick colors..long artificial eyelashes. Acting talents- above average.

Vidya Balan..pretty, don't know enough to comment about her acting talents.

There are some stars who I really like, who are so underrated (and may not win big awards). *I am a huge fan of Radhika as an actress and as a "real" person- pretty, smart, charming, adventurous, versatile with a great sense of humor..willing to take risks as a producer, business person etc.

That's what I recall, that she was heavily made up. She had this very obvious pan cakey make up, with heavily painted eyes, pastel lipstick colors. May be Savitri had it on as well but I guess most of her movies were black and white, while Vanisri's were in ? Eastman color.

Sure..as you say, the make up types and quality were different..and all the stars used them rather generously!

However, I think that her peers at that time- like Jayalalitha, K.R.Vijaya, Kanchana..had better make-up artists..this poor lady was not so lucky!

He own hubby is a doc and both her son/daughter are doctors as well. So it is no wonder doctors marrying doctors and into doctor family. At least, she did not marry someone in Amrika and return after a few years with a divorce only to act in 3rd rate movies.

Asin Thottakappial (I think) is a Mallu Syrian Christian (mother tongue - Malayalam) whereas Genelia D'Souza (now Deshmukh) is a Mangalore Catholic Christian (mother tongue - Konkini) . Asin was model and businesswoman before entering movies, and Genelia was an accomplished sportswoman (played soccer for the Indian national team) before entering movies.
