Water served only on request Empty Water served only on request

Water seems to be an issue flowing to the forefront in restaurant service, as a new California law goes into effect that prohibits restaurants from offering it unless requested by the customer.

Many restaurants have already started adhering to the law, and some places still have a tagline — “Water served upon request” — on the menu from the last drought in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Allyson Jossel, an owner of Nopa, Nopalito and Liholiho Yacht Club, said they’ve had many meetings about how to not offer water but still be hospitable. It’s a situation other restaurants have been struggling with in the last couple of weeks.

Recently on a visit to Bar Tartine I noticed the menu said “Due to CA drought conditions, water will be served only upon request.” We didn’t ask but the waiter  came to the table with a carafe of water and put it on the table saying:  “Due to California law we can’t offer water, so you’ll have to pour your own.”

Huh?

At another restaurant a waiter told us he wasn’t allowed to offer water upon request — and then offered it.

Looks like living in California these days is no different than living in Hyderabad.

Is it possible that Indian restaurants try to save money by serving left over water from other people's glasses to other customers.
I'm going to request bottled water in Indian places.

It is only a matter of time before kalipornians are rationed water for shower and move towards "dry latrines"

The Indian RTNL concept (Railway Track Natural Latrine) will soon find favor in Kalipornia.
