and not any board exam scores.

This will out pressure on the students to train and prepare exclusively for the JEE exam from Std VI. This will be a huge disadvantage for the poor and rural students.

Looks like some AP Gults are involved in the decision making. They own almost all of Hyderabad's tutorial colleges that train IIT hopefuls. Now they can expand their business. Hmm....

The NITs (former RECs) were one for each state even in those days. Now with an IIT in every state (its standing at 17 now), the older RECs (Trichy, Suratkal, Warrangal, Bhopal, Calicut) have a better reputation than many of the newer IITs.

The RECs are considering the IIT-JEE main scores as the basis for admission to the RECs (Which take 50% from in-state and rest from out of state).

Here is the list

and and list of IITs

Kota, Rajasthan, Hyderabad, and Namakkal ( of all places) have become centers of these Gulag-style boarding schools and tutorial schools. Namakkal started its very first private elementary school in the 60s and the first private high school in the 80s. And, now it is a hotbed of Boarding schools. Unbelievable.
