History is never neat or linear. Decades do not automatically have personalities, but it is possible to divide the period since 1984 into two distinct phases. The final 16 years of the 20th Century was a time of American hegemony. The first 16 years of the 21st Century has proven to be a period of dysfunction, discontent, disillusionment and decline. The America of today in many ways reflects the dissonance between the two.

The world is going through a passing phase, America is not immune to this. World is trying to reinvent itself with the help of digital revolution after the industrial revolution has left the world imbalanced. This too shall pass.

Since 2000, it has been one bubble after the other causing even more economic inequality and marginalizing the weaker section of American society even more. I think more gentrification will occur with certain sections of society doing very well while most others are pushed down lower.

An excerpt from the article I posted
Between 1979 and 2007, household income in the top 1% grew by 275% compared to just 18% growth in the bottom fifth of households.
Wonder what comprises top 1%, blacks, hispanics, immigrants?
