Maulana Haider Ali Kohari (b.17th century-d.?) was the trusted military general and secretary of the Maratha king Shivaji. He was one of the most trusted lieutenants of Shivaji and was involved in almost all of his early campaigns. Haider Ali Kohari was probably the highest Muslim general in the Maratha army. Born in a Marathi-speaking Muslim family in the Deccan, he quickly took to arms and weaponry. Although he was a warrior, he was also a learned Islamic scholar. Information about his later years is obscure.

I read in school history that this Sivaji killed an enemy general when he came for peace talks. Is it not a abdominable" Do you respect Sivaji?

as far as i recall - and i must say i don't recall much from the history lessons - shivaji killed afzhal khan with his hands when they met for negotiations. more here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afzal_Khan_(general)

In 1639, Afzal Khan had murdered Raja Kasturi Ranga after inviting him for a meeting where he could safely make a submission. Therefore, Shivaji was wary of Afzal Khan's real intentions.

indeed. however, if you go by the marathas' version of the story, afzhal khan wanted to kill shivaji. the great shivaji saw it coming and played a smart game. who knows what happened in reality?

why should anyone rename CST? shivaji was the greatest hindu king in the land in his time and it is only natural that marathis respect him.
