I don't know whether Genghis Khan wore pants or leather skirts, but women of the Kushan dynasty (Kanishka) wore Shalwar-Kamiz or the so called Punjabi dress (their royal graves in Afghanistan prove that - according to a National Geographic issue long time ago). So ther's a Chinese connection to pants!

no it does not seem to be a chinese influence. the kushans adopted the dress of the land while incorporating some elements (like stitched fabric) from their nomadic period. the salwar kameez was a greek and persian influence as per the link below. the sari was a greco-roman influence.

vallabhi university, gujarat.

there are no ruins of vallabhi university (or university town) or they have not been discovered yet. we know of it only through the memoirs of the chinese scholars and jain and buddhist texts. the chinese scholars have described it as a seat of learning at par with nalanda. the presence of romans in the university is attributable to the existence of a trade route with rome through the gulf of khambat then. nalanda had tibetans, SE asians and chinese and possibly a few greeks in its international student population. taxila too had the same sort of international community with the inclusion of indo greeks and parthians and central asians i guess. a large population of romans would have been peculiar to vallabhi i think.

nalanda was founded as a buddhist monastery. taxila started as a hindu centre of learning. vallabhi started as a jain centre of learning.
