a placeholder thread for the series starting tomorrow. i will watch from time to time, but so much hype and marketing for what's going to be a really one-sided affair. i am rooting for australia because i always like to root for the underdog when india is not playing, but i don't think they stand a chance. they're going to be rolled over.

ashton agarkar makes his debut. he is only 19 and has played only ten (yes, ten) first class matches. i don't know if aussie cupboard is bare or he is incredibly talented. he will bowl soon.

australian jadeja - steven smith - keeps his place in the team and khwaja misses out yet again.

ENG side is as expected.

siddle is bowling well but many of the english batsmen perished because of horrendous shot selection. matt prior is an absolute idiot.

the last session was australia's for sure. england has to be a lot tighter in their shot selection and letting wide balls go. there was plenty of fetching wide deliveries and failing in the top order.

Aussie bowling has always been punching above their weight. It is their batting that is suspect. 300 by England in the first innings is enough.

Wow, what a start to the series! Both sides competing with each other in losing wickets. Aussies can still take a first innings lead if they can stich together couple of decent partnerships. I have a feeling Steven Smith will score big along with Brad Haddin.

well, i think although smith will be the top scorer for AUS, they will still not lead by much, if at all. ENG will bat better in the IInd innings and swann will be the key bowling 4th.

Well, Aussies did take the lead afterall! Maybe they should just got with 10 bowlers and a keeper. Their tailenders make more runs than so called batsmen. Now it is time for Cook and KP to score big and set the tone for the rest of the series.

most finger spinners these days have a gun barrel straight approach to the crease. in the old days, people used to come in at an angle allowing a more side on position which gives more pivot and twist at the point of delivery which is always useful for a spinner. when i played in high school, i always use to approach at an angle copying the greats of the day and discovered the wisdom of the angled approach. my high school coach rather encouraged this too. that seems to be mostly gone these days. has there been some fundamental shift in philosophy with people coaching these days? look at this agar fellow. he has very straight approach to the crease. same with ashwin. if you watch old clips of dilip doshi, ravi shastri, maninder singh, john emburey and phil edmonds and even wrist spinners like qadir, you'll see a distinct angled approach by contrast.

despite bell's 3rd consecutive 100, ENG are still only 289 for 7. what a shame! with broad and swann yet to bat, i expect ENG to crawl towards 350 but no more. and that is not a very good score given the flat wicket. AUS may still surprise us by making it look like 700, so let's wait and watch.

No such worries now that they're bundled out for 128. But pommies are sucking in the 2nd dig, their first innings lead will give them the edge to win this encounter.

Wow! this Bresnan guy is giving Aussie bowlers a tough time. Eng has ` 350 runs lead with 7 wickets in hand. I'm slightly disappointed as I was expecting that this match will be wrapped up in 3 days.

This is easily the worst team that Aussies have ever put on field. Clarke is a terrible leader. My admiration for Border just went up a couple of notches who rebuilt the team when it was under similar circumstances few decades ago.
