Re: Editorial on Murdoch -
Good article. Totally agree with this:
What we do not need is another soft, bloodless SEC settlement that
couples a fine with an injunction directing the defendant to obey the
law in the future. This time, the regulators should hold out for real
reforms, and that means Murdoch should go.

Re: Editorial on Murdoch -
I just have a feeling he will dodge any criminal charges, but this is bad for his empire. Cameron and Scotland Yard are going to bear the brunt of this. After reading this, I find the Journal's editorial yesterday to be even more disingenuous, even of he had not directly interfered with their (WSJ's) stances.

And this from Skynews--
Stephenson: I didn't mean to impugn the PM
"In another blow to the Prime Minister, two top police officers told a
parliamentary committee that Mr Cameron’s chief of staff Ed Llewellyn
asked Scotland Yard not to raise the issue of hacking during a Downing
Street briefing last year.
Former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson, who quit at the weekend, and former Assistant Commissioner
John Yates, who stepped down on Monday, told the Home Affairs Select
Committee they believed Mr Llewellyn wanted to avoid "compromising" Mr
Cameron"

This is getting more and more like Watergate, but unfolding at 21st century speed. I am not a lawyer, but Llewellyn's action sounds a lot like obstruction of justice, given that there was an ongoing investigation into the phone hacking. It will be great if Cameron is edged out. The crisis of confidence in the UK is rather severe, and the PM losing his job will be good to restore public confidence. John Oliver of The Daily Show did a great piece last week about the loss of confidence.

At this point, this is going down like the titanic even without the Hoare angle. The british press is going to see some serious restrictions.

I don't understand how a man's death in his mid-40s is considered "unexplained but not suspicious" when he is at the heart of such an important scandal. Is it not suspicious because the police have decided not to be suspicious about this?

Re: Editorial on Murdoch -
I told my kids briefly about this at dinner because this is history unfolding and also my older guy says he can't stand fox news. When they heard the story, my second son almost reflexively shot back that we will be hearing someone got bumped off very soon. I told him this had happened already. Lots of questions..

I dont think this is that huge. atmost he'll probably be forced to jettison his news paper businesses which have not been the engine of profitability for newscorp anyways.
