Retirement Gift For Professor Empty Retirement Gift For Professor

This professor (From Taiwan but now a US Citizen) has helped me immensely over last several years. I was his student but continued contact after leaving school. Even for every Xmas he sends lots of cash in mail or gift cards to kids and somehow finds words to force me to accept despite my refusal.

He retired at 74 this summer and will probably relocate to California. I am going to meet him soon before he moves and want to give him a gift. He says he won't accept any. All the stuff I thought, are the items he already has. He is a great fitness guy who looks like he is 50. My ideas

Fitness club membership (he has two already)

ipad (he has ipad2)

Prepaid USAir/United gift card for his trips from his city to California (he travels often).. this could actually be a good one.

running out of ideas. My budget is $500. It is very small compared to what he gave me, but at this time I am cramped.

TAZ -

You have immense respect for this man. He's a fit person as well. Does he have a sense of humor? If so, give him the gift that people in India got when they retired - a walking stick. You could get a real nice one from India (price + shipment < USD 500). For a man who already has all the items you though of - this could be touching him with both sentiment and humor... plus he could also use it for hiking.

How is ittU? Smile

If I were you I would buy him a silver plate. Whenever my budget is like above 200$ - always try to buy some precious metals. A silver coin...something in those line. They make a good gift and also value.
