Uppili says:
"That word (meaning entitlements) is plain wrong. The govt gives back what it took as loans from the former youngsters. This is no different than cities building school buildings by selling bonds, then taxing the residents to repay the bonds for the next 30 years."

A bond has a principal amount, a definite interest and a time period associated with it. Social security and medicare were formulated as a policy on the then available data of longevity. A bond can be recalled by a corporation in case of changed circumstances.

SS policy was crafted in 1930s and medicare in 1960s. Both have been more than 50 years old. Lot of data has changed and change was dramatic.
The ss and medicare should have been changed long ago but for the resistance of dems. Now each older american is drawing more than (Much more than) what is put in. The amounts are not even comparable even after adjusting for inflation. Now it is a ponzi scheme. That is why they are called entitlements.

I don't want to lose my entitlements in my old age. But i also think of my children and feel that a better policy should be in place to provide for the elderly. I am ok if we can device a scheme where we get the money we put in with some adjustments.

They are entitlements. Their size is monstrous. They must be tackled. Democratic party was a hindrance to such efforts.

Not a single prominent leader of the GOP is. There in lies another major problem with the ideological blinkers of the party.

I smell liberal conspiracy in this. The judge may be a liberal plant!
No conspiracy. Who cares about a little slant here and some bias there?
