Haha. I was one of the half million mega commuters. Always accounted for 2 hours one way. Sometimes would get lucky and finish it in hour and thirty minute. In old job, thirty of those minutes would be spent waking across mid town (which may have been a good thing).
I don't think I can ever work in NYC again unless I move closer to it, atleast until the second one goes to college.

I used to drive 80 miles each way for a few months two years ago. I used to do it in an hour and 15 minutes each way, and I got two speeding tickets three months apart. The traffic wasn't usually bad, but I still used to be totally exhausted at the end of the day because of the stressful driving. I don't think I will ever sign up for that kind of daily driving again.

Yeah. I had nightmare driving too once. It was 35 miles one way. But there were so many bottle necks. I tried 5+ different ways to get there but none worked. It would be minimum 1 hour and maximum once was 2h30m. Moreover saw so many accidents and hated them as they added to traffic crawl. The work sucked and so did the pay. Nighmare team. And I got preggo on top of it. Quit that gig one day, over email and phone. Just like that. K didn't forgive me for weeks for being impulsive like that. No regrets though.

lol they were showing the characteristics of megacommuters on news this morning:
1. they are mostly married men
2. their wives do not usually work
3. 2-3 kids (obviously mom cannot work...not as a mega commuter atleast).
4. they start as early as 6am in the morning and spend as much as 90 min on the road! :O
recently a friend of ours bought a house in mountain house. which is like a mega lightyear away from where the life is.
