Iyers (smartas) sport 3 horizontal lines on their foreheads, and they use vibhuti (ashes) for that.

Iyengars sport 3 vertical lines (or a U shape) on their foreheads. Now, what material is used in that naamam (I know it can't be ashes)?

Also some married women dab a little sindooram at the beginning of the parting of the hair on the forehead. What is that made of?

kaajal/kaaTuka (Eyeliner?) - I know they use butter with soot (they may even add medicinal herbs), if it's made at home. What do the commercial products use?

Regular kumkum is used in the parting of the hair

Kaatika uses castor oil not butter AFAIK. A lot of herbal products like Himalaya, Lotus these days use the traditional formula for eyeblack.

The thing that Iyengars use is called Srichurnam , I believe. Don't know what it is made of.

Since "sri" is in the name, I am assuming tumeric is used as an ingredient.
Is kohl/surma different from kaajal/kaatuka?
