Rishi, a few days ago, during your discussion with JM about a simple calculus problem, I commented that your approach in getting the solution to that problem was very similar to the well-known finite difference method (FDM) which can be used for obtaining numerical solutions to the highly complex dynamical systems.

In fact, before I decided to use another approach during my MS thesis (1972) to numerically solve a complicated set of differential equations involving several variables, I had been thinking of writing a computer program myself by using the FDM to numerically solve the thesis problem on satellite boom forces (http://arc.aiaa.org/doi/abs/10.2514/3.49266)

Don't worry about the understanding part. It was just to show that even a seemingly very easy and simple technique (which you used in your problem) is at the heart of a very broad and intricate method (FDM) which can be used to solve problems related to complex and highly involved dynamical systems.
