my niece is travelling to nyc next week to appear for the nbde test (dental post grad). she will be staying in edison, new jersey with her friend's family. she will be there for 13 days. my cousin wanted to know a few things and i thought i'd first ask here before advising him. so here are a few questions:

(i) since boarding is free, what will the daily expenses for her be like (food, travel, entertainment). how man dollars is she to be provided with?

(ii) please suggest me a few places in and around the tri state area that she can visit (like washington dc perhaps?). including must see places in nyc and new jersey.

To travel along the North east corridor. You can look at Amtrak prices on

Within NJ the prices are at :

Within Boston you can look at the options at:
http://www.mbta.com/

To travel within DC you can look at the options at :
http://www.wmata.com/

On top of that she will need about 100$ a day for food and entertainment (including attraction tickets)

And you can check out what to visit on
http://www.tripadvisor.com

txs hellsu. i'll pass on the message. a return ticket to penn station costs ~$50! that's as costly as elish fish! i think she will need $200+ per day to be comfortable and to enjoy.
